What affects the price

Frequently asked questions

Why is replacing a smart key so expensive?
A push-to-start smart fob is a small computer that has to be paired to your car’s immobilizer with a diagnostic tool, and the fob hardware itself costs more. That combination pushes locksmith prices to $250–$550 and dealer prices to $400–$900+.
Is a locksmith cheaper than the dealer for a car key?
Usually by a wide margin — 30–50% less for the same cutting and programming, and many come to you. The exception is some newer encrypted smart keys that, for now, only the dealer can supply.
What does "all keys lost" mean and why does it cost more?
It means you have no working key left, so the locksmith or dealer must originate a key from scratch and reset the immobilizer rather than cloning an existing one. That adds roughly $150–$400 on top of the normal key price.
Can I just buy a fob online and save money?
You can buy the fob for $50–$200, but it still has to be cut and programmed to your car. Match the FCC ID exactly, then have a locksmith program it. Our per-vehicle pages list the correct FCC ID and part number.
