2011 Toyota RAV-4 Key Fob Programming

Main procedure

1. 1With the key out of the ignition, unlock and open the driver's door (all other doors closed).
2. 2Within 5 seconds, insert the key into the ignition (don't turn) and pull it out — do this twice.
3. 3Within 40 seconds: close then open the driver's door twice, then insert the key (don't turn) and pull it out.
4. 4Within 40 seconds: close then open the driver's door twice. Insert the key and leave it in, close the driver's door, turn the ignition ON then back to OFF (don't start), and remove the key.
5. 5Within 3 seconds the locks should lock then unlock, confirming programming mode. If they don't, start over or use the alternate procedure.
6. 6Within 40 seconds: press LOCK and UNLOCK on the remote together for 1.5 seconds, release, then press and hold LOCK alone. Within 10 seconds the locks cycle once to confirm. (Two cycles means it failed — repeat.) Repeat for each remote.
7. 7Open the driver's door.

Alternate procedure

Toyota Avalon uses the Avalon button step; all other models use the standard button step.

1. 1Make sure all doors are closed, then open the driver's door.
2. 2Insert the key into the ignition, then remove it.
3. 3Press LOCK and UNLOCK on the door-lock switch 5 times at one-second intervals.
4. 4Close and reopen the driver's door, then press LOCK and UNLOCK on the switch 5 more times at one-second intervals.
5. 5Insert the key, turn the ignition ON then back to OFF (don't start), and remove the key. The locks cycle to confirm programming mode.
6. 6Avalon: press LOCK on the remote for at least 1 second. All others: press and hold LOCK + UNLOCK together 1.5 seconds, then press and hold LOCK until the locks cycle.
7. 7The locks cycle once to confirm (twice means it failed). Repeat for remaining remotes, then close the door and test.
